The South Pacific Pod was an ancient pod of Southern mermaids and formerly mermen located somewhere in the South Pacific.

Description[]

Like all pods, the South Pacific Pod had a Mermaid Council that was in charge of governing, and a Mermaid School where hatchlings learned how to use their powers properly and use Moon Rings.

Rules[]

Despite every pod have it own set of rules, the ones in the South Pacific Pod were the following:

  • It was forbidden to reveal themselves, to associate with or to fall in love with land people. (it is unknown if this extended to other non-human beings)
  • It was forbidden to cast the Legs Spell, whether by the Full Moon or by using a Moon Rings.
  • It was forbidden to let a human being undergo metamorphosis in an active Moon Pool.
  • It was forbidden to swim too close the shore or where they could be seen.
  • When a merman hatchling was born, a newborn was to be given up to foster human families on land with the use of a forbidden Legs Spell.
  • It was forbidden to attend the Full Moon Ceremony unless in possession of a Moon Ring.
  • The bestowing of a new Moon Ring may occur only under specific, worth-proving circumstances.

If a member violated one of the rules in the South Pacific Pod, the elders of their responsible Mermaid Council were to strictly discipline and punish the reported merperson, such as via permanently banishing him/her, resulting in them being outcast. Despite this, a Mermaid Council had the power to lift a merperson's banishment, welcoming them again if the conditions of their return were met.

History[]

Since ancient times, a pod of dozens of Southern mermen and mermaids was found living in the waters of the South Pacific Ocean.

Due to the entire merkind race being magically gifted with extraordinary magical abilities and the capacity of amplifying them hundreds of times by Moon Pools since ancient times, the mermaids across the seas, including the South Pacific Pod, honored the Full Moon in a ceremony since then, which was reserved only for the initiated mermaid members of the pod.

Eons later, around the 11th Century, an army of Southern mermaids, along with four other mermaids from the other oceans, drew on the powers of the oceans and locked the Trident away in the Trident Cave with one of the kinder merman's help. From then on, all mermen were to be abandoned by their mothers when they were born to be raised on land in human foster families as the Legs Spell easily makes it possible. However, it was unknown if the South Pacific Pod followed through the same practice or not, but it likely did, as the Mako Pod was not afraid to join the pod while looking for a new home.

Centuries later, when Zac Blakely's true merman form and magical powers were restored, the Mako Pod fled and sought refuge with this pod. However, after an unspecified amount of time, the Mako Pod left the South Pacific Pod in search for a new home, before it eventually returned to the Mako Island.

Trivia[]

  • Southern mermaids and mermen from the South Pacific were allergic to snow, and contracted a dangerous type of rash if they ever came into physical contact with it due to living in warm and cozy weather, and under normal circumstances never interacted with ice or snow. To heal, a dried seahorse powder must be sprinkled on the affected part of the skin, and the rash would immediately disappear, and the merperson completely healed.[1]
  • After meeting up with the South Pacific Pod, Aquata mentioned to her sister that its members knew "the best songs", which might indicate many sirens among them.
